SUMMARY:Shifting to Joy: Mike Margolis
DESCRIPTION:As a young man\, he dreamt of dedicating his life to art. With a strong passion\, he pursued art education and even had the incredible opportunity to create illustrations for Hallmark after college. However\, practicality led him to a more stable career in the seafood industry. For over 50 years\, Margolis dedicated himself to ensuring fresh seafood was delivered to restaurants across the Valley\, working tirelessly from early morning until late at night. \nThe pandemic brought unexpected challenges to his business\, as restaurant operations were disrupted. It was during this time of uncertainty that Margolis rekindled his first love—art. Since 2020\, he has explored various artistic styles\, each reflecting an underlying joy of life\, or “joie de vivre.” In this upcoming exhibition\, Margolis presents two collections that radiate a sense of happiness and lightness\, expressed through playful gestures and creative use of scale. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, May 30\, 6-8pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Red Dawn: Germán Benincore
DESCRIPTION:Living in space has captivated human imagination for centuries\, inspiring countless works of literature\, film\, and even fueling space exploration. From childhood fantasies of soaring through the stars to government-funded missions exploring outer space\, the notion of living beyond Earth has long been a part of our collective dream. Recently\, however\, the growing push for commercial space ventures and proposals for terraforming planets\, like Mars\, has raised important questions about the motivations behind these ambitions. \nIn his installation Red Dawn\, artist\, Germán Benincore\, reflects on the ethical and philosophical dilemmas tied to humanity’s desire to inhabit other planets. The inspiration for this work arose during a bike ride through Phoenix\, where Benincore was struck by the stark urban landscape and its concrete structures\, drawing a parallel between the ongoing urbanization of Earth and the potential for transforming Mars into a livable environment. Through a combination of drawings\, sculptures\, and ready made objects\, Red Dawn challenges viewers to consider the implications of terraforming in relation to current social and environmental issues. \nIn this installation\, Phoenix is depicted as a model for terraforming—an experiment in adapting an environment for human habitation. The project intertwines narratives of ecological challenges\, space exploration\, and the motivations behind large-scale colonization projects. Benincore critiques the disconnection some of society’s elites may feel toward current struggles on Earth\, highlighting how this pursuit may overlook pressing issues here at home. Red Dawn encourages reflection on both the technological ambitions of today and the broader ethical implications of pushing humanity into new frontiers. \n

SUMMARY:Con cariño siempre: Ariana Enriquez
DESCRIPTION:Within the Mexican culture\, there is believed to be two deaths–the first is when you physically pass away and the second is when you have been forgotten by the living. Wanting to preserve the legacy of the strong women in her family\, muralist and artist\, Ariana Enriquez set out to tell their stories in the best way she knew how— through her artwork. However\, in order to truly celebrate these women\, she would need to first delve deeper into her family’s history. Armed with pen and paper\, Enriquez sat down at her Yoya’s (great aunt) table with her relatives. Her family members shared some truly incredible stories about the acts of service\, kindness\, and compassion that have been passed down through the generations. So often\, people want to discuss generational trauma\, but what about generational joy and the positivity and unity that can be passed down through the generations? This undercurrent of love and strength is something that Enriquez had felt her whole life but never quite understood how it had manifested in her family. It was then that she realized that these acts of love are the bedrock of her familial bonds. \nFor Con cariño siempre\, Enriquez creates a visual love letter to her family. Drawing from her practice of using fauna and flora as symbolism\, Enriquez created large scale installations that not only celebrate the women in her family but also highlight the love languages expressed throughout the years. By visually telling the stories of her ancestors\, Enriquez aims to keep their memories alive long after they are gone. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, August 8\, 5-7pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:So Fun! An Exploration of Maximalism
DESCRIPTION:Born out of a rebellion against the Minimalist art movement\, contemporary Maximalism counters the prejudice of high culture. From Yayoi Kusama’s polka dots to Kehinde Wiley’s portraits\, this complex mode of creation has been used by artists and creatives over the decades to express themselves and transform the historical understanding of maximalist craft. The artists in this exhibition create transformative environments\, explore femininity and queerness\, celebrate the impact of internet culture\, breathe new life into second-hand objects\, and recontextualize the legacy of maximalism. Behind the tacky smiley faces\, flashy flowers\, and bright colors\, in this exhibition there are deeply personal\, social\, and cultural topics being explored that challenge the perception of this playful aesthetic. Through the use of color\, pattern\, and repetition\, “So Fun!” creates an environment rich in storytelling\, self-expression\, and empowerment that embodies the joyful spirit of the aesthetic of excess. \nParticipating artists: Lex Gjurasic\, Sarah Hurwitz\, Emily Spetrino\, and Chloe Torri \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, August 22\, 6-8 pm \nRSVP\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Gallery Item Wall\n \n \n \n \n \n Gallery of

SUMMARY:Field of Belonging: Megan Hennessy
DESCRIPTION:“Field of Belonging” offers a glimpse into the world Megan Hennessy is building for herself – a world shaped by joy\, surreal beauty\, and quiet rebellion. Inspired by maximalism\, rave aesthetics\, and the soft power of spiritual connection\, this exhibition pulses with color\, texture\, and care. Exaggerated Kandi forms and glowing orbs echo with a message of affirmation: “YOU BELONG\,” creating a sanctuary that exists somewhere between memory and a future dream. \nThis installation is grounded in four enduring values: Peace\, Love\, Unity\, and Respect. These principles\, often abbreviated as PLUR in rave culture\, speak to the core of our human experience—a desire to feel safe\, to belong\, to connect\, and to grow. Hennessy offers a personal interpretation: Possibility\, Light\, Understanding\, and Resonate. This reinterpretation is not intended to replace the original values\, but to build upon them—contributing to the formation of a space not meant for escape\, but for reflection and transformation. \nHennessy invites you to become part of her personal utopia—protective\, radiant\, and alive—a space where new growth blooms\, guardians stand watch\, and acceptance is a given. \n\nOpening Reception\n“Field of Belonging” opens alongside “So Fun! An Exploration of Maximalism” \nFriday\, August 22\, 6-8pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Art Quilts 30: Palette Cleanser
DESCRIPTION:“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add\, but when there is nothing left to take away.” \n– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry\nTerre des Hommes\n(published in English as Wind\, Sand and Stars) \nWith the constant onslaught of news media around us\, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and disconnected from the world around us. As a respite from these intense narratives\, exploring minimalism through art offers a refreshing Palette Cleanser\, inviting us to reflect on simplicity in a chaotic world. \nSimplicity reveals a profound beauty\, as it strips away extraneous details to reveal clarity in your artistic thought\, design and execution. Maybe your best work is known for its clean lines or its geometric shapes. Do you use a limited or monotoned color palette? Does negative space play a big role in your art? Is your quilt stitching stripped down to the essential shapes needed to highlight and emphasize your design? Perhaps you’re pushing the craft forward by making modern interpretations of traditional quilt blocks or by creating three-dimensional sculptures from quilts that result in spare and elegant forms. \nHowever you use minimalism in your art quilts\, we want to see your submissions for the 30th Annual Art Quilt exhibition. Practicing the art of reduction requires a deep understanding of your subject\, excellent technical mastery and the ability to identify the most crucial elements of the quilting craft to create dynamic emotional effects and leave a lasting impression in your viewers. Palette Cleanser celebrates the beauty of minimalism and encourages simplicity\, clarity\, and timelessness to create powerful\, thought-provoking pieces. \nAbout the Juror\nSusan Allred manipulates textiles and other fibers to explore the ways they affect and reflect our daily lives. Her work expresses her thoughts and feelings about society’s expectations for women\, their bodies and their work. Her artistic process\, which is lengthy and repetitive\, becomes a meditation on “women’s work” — the painstaking labor\, both mental and physical — that has historically been dismissed as merely decorative or utilitarian instead of as the product of a fertile\, creative minds. By transforming quilts into non-functional sculptural works that invite viewers to think about concepts that may be controversial\, Allred questions the notion that crafts cannot be used to create fine art while also commenting on the invisibility of women’s labor. \nAllred’s work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions\, most recently in a two-person show at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum. She was an artist member at Eye Lounge contemporary art space and served as co-president for two years. Allred lives and works in Tempe\, Arizona. \n  \nOpening Reception\nSaturday\, November 8\, 4-6pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Rice is Mẹ: Anh-Thuy Nguyen
DESCRIPTION:Rice. This humble\, white grain is an essential component to most Asian cuisines. It also holds a plethora of meanings and symbolisms in various Asian cultures. For artist\, Anh-Thuy Nguyen\, this ubiquitous food staple has become an obsession. In her latest body of work\, Nguyen utilizes rice as a metaphor for herself as she grapples with the reality that her culture and wisdom are being lost from generation to generation. Like grains for rice running through her hands\, Nguyen felt her culture was lost from her mouth to her daughter’s ears. Throughout this exhibition\, Nguyen is reconciling her feelings of loss\, resilience and hope for the future. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, November 14\, 6pm-8pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Land Valuation: Luke Watson
DESCRIPTION:From the luscious panoramic landscapes of the Hudson River School to Maynard Dixon’s seemingly endless cloud filled skies set behind painted mesas to Grant Wood’s overly saturated and stylized pastoral scenes of the Midwest\, American painters have long shaped a romantic vision of the land. These images helped construct a narrative of the United States as expansive\, untouched\, and waiting to be explored. This myth has further been perpetuated by tourism imagery\, National Park postcards\, and idealized and sometimes altered travel photography. Yet the land has always borne evidence of habitation\, use\, and intervention. This tension between the idealized landscape and the lived landscape raises ongoing questions about perception versus reality\, and what it means to love\, occupy\, or lay claim to the land. \nFor Land Valuation\, Phoenix-based artist\, Luke Watson\, reframes the conversation around the American landscape by centering the human experience. Within the exhibition\, Watson creates macro and micro encounters with nature from atv tire tracks set in front of looming mesas to a birdwatcher standing in a parking lot to an intimate rendering of an endangered bird. By foregrounding ordinary interactions with the outdoors\, Watson challenges the expectation that nature must appear untouched to be meaningful. His work invites viewers to reconsider how land is valued—as scenery\, resource\, recreation site\, habitat\, or cultural inheritance. Rather than presenting answers\, Watson opens space for reflection: Who gets to define what nature is? What constitutes a “nature lover”? And how do our everyday choices\, movements\, and pleasures shape the landscapes we claim to admire? These questions form a more contemporary discussion around our value system around land and expose inherent biases we all have around the use of nature. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, January 23\, 2026 6-8 pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:(Be)Longing
DESCRIPTION:Moving to a new country can be a daunting experience\, especially as an adult. You leave behind familiar language\, culture\, and customs\, and face the challenge of adapting to a new way of life. Yet\, alongside the pressure to assimilate is the desire to preserve your identity and traditions. How do you find balance and create your own path. For the artists featured in (Be) Longing\, they attempt to reconcile their two identities through art. \nThis exhibition features four Japanese-born artists who have immigrated to the United States and now call Arizona home. Through diverse materials from resin to clay to paint\, they explore the complexities of cultural identity\, nostalgia\, and belonging. Their works are contemporary\, yet deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics\, drawing inspiration from folklore\, religious rituals\, Zen philosophy\, and historical art forms like Fusuma-e and Mingei craft. \nEach piece offers a personal narrative: a reflection on the tension between longing for home and finding one’s place in a new land. Together\, they present a multifaceted view of the Japanese immigrant experience—one that is as much about resilience and transformation as it is about memory and tradition. \nFeaturing artwork by: Kazuma Sambe\, Kaori Takamura\, Hirotsune Tashima\, and Yuko Yabuki \nOpening Reception\nSaturday\, February 21\, 2026 5-7pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Is There Wi-Fi in Heaven? Grieving in the Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever sent a text message you knew would always go unanswered? Or visited a dead loved one’s social media profile just to reflect on them? You’re not alone. Is there Wi-Fi in Heaven: Grieving in the Digital Age explores how technology reshapes the ways we mourn and maintain bonds with the dead. As social media and digital tools transform our interactions with the living\, they also create new tools for how we grieve. Through works that consider online rituals\, digital memorials\, and the management of “digital remains\,” this exhibition reflects on emerging practices of public mourning\, continuing bonds\, and even pseudo-spiritual attempts to connect across the divide. In the networked age\, grief too\, is increasingly mediated through screens\, raising questions about permanence\, ritual\, and what it means to visit the dead when physical presence is no longer required. \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, March 27\, 6-8 pm \nRSVP

SUMMARY:Heirlooms: Dawn Kushner
DESCRIPTION:Emerging from craft and Appalachian history\, these laser-cut vellum doilies transform transgenerational loss into material form. The doilies incorporate archival photographs\, news articles\, and handwritten letters related to West Virginia’s extensive history of extractive industries. By burning and removing portions of the printed surface\, the work itself serves as a place of extraction. The remaining translucent\, fragmented forms become artifacts of mourning\, symbolizing what cannot be fully reconciled or restored. \nArtwork by Dawn Kushner \nOpening Reception\nFriday\, March 27\, 6-8 pm \nRSVP\n
