Textures of Arizona
Textures of Arizona features a broad spectrum of work that highlights the majestic nature of this state we all call home. From the sandstone spires of Monument Valley to the outstretched arms of the iconic Saguaros, the beauty of this land is inescapable.
Jacob Meders: Familiar Territory
Who gets to tell the story of cowboys and Indians? In Familiar Territory, artist Jacob Meders (Mechoopda-Maidu) updates 20th century prints depicting glorified moments from westward expansion, a historical period often romanticized from a white perspective. Meders' work centers an Indigenous viewpoint and asks viewers to reconsider the story they think they know.
Make and Take: Felted Sunsets
Make an Arizona sunset to hang on your wall! This activity is inspired by our current exhibition, Textures of Arizona at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Use colorful wool roving to create a fiber art "painting" depicting the beauty of our state. This is a free activity for all ages. Children under age 8 are welcome to participate with assistance from an adult.
