"Heirlooms" featuring artwork by Dawn Kushner @drkushner.art will be on display at Vision Gallery March 28-June 6, 2026

Emerging from craft and Appalachian history, these laser-cut vellum doilies transform transgenerational loss into material form. The doilies incorporate archival photographs, news articles, and handwritten letters related to West Virginia’s extensive history of extractive industries. By burning and removing portions of the printed surface, the work itself serves as a place of extraction. The remaining translucent, fragmented forms become artifacts of mourning, symbolizing what cannot be fully reconciled or restored.

This installation will be on display alongside "Is There Wi-Fi in Heaven? Grieving in the Digital Age" 💻

Learn the basics of creative lettering to create your own eye-catching signage! Conceptualize what you want your sign to say, work with our professional sign artist to develop your preferred fonts and sign composition, then write away! Whether you prefer bold swoops and swirls, thick blocky letters, classic serifs, or want to create your own font, all styles are welcome. At the end of class, you’ll leave with your own display-worthy chalkboard sign! Led by Aimee Ollinger (@aimoart ). 🎨

This casual 3 hour class doesn’t require any prior knowledge or skill, and all materials are included in the $35 class fee. This class is for adults 18 and older.
