🍼M|otherworlds artist Allison Moyers explores the complex realities of motherhood in her pieces titled “Baby Gate” and “Mummy Needs Mending.” A full-time artist and a mother of a two-year-old, this artwork reflects the surreal ad transformative experience of early parenthood.

“Baby Gate” is a three-part collaborative piece with her daughter Zooey, features three vibrant panels inspired by Henry Darger that depict a dreamworld of girlhood. Her daughters’ scribbles are layered into the work, symbolizing the joyful, and disruptive, influence of motherhood on her creative process.

In the installation “Mummy Needs Mending,” Moyers addresses body dysmorphia and the disembodiment of the nursing phase, reflecting on the vulnerability and strength of maternal identity. Her work is both playful and raw, capturing the beauty, pain, and transformation from #contemporaryartist to #artmom.

🎨 Upcoming exhibition, "Shifting to Joy" with artwork by Mike Margolis @mikemargolisart will be on display at the Gallery at CCA May 24-August 2, 2025

🐠 As a young man, Mike dreamt of dedicating his life to art. With a strong passion, he pursued art education and even had the incredible opportunity to create illustrations for Hallmark after college. However, practicality led him to a more stable career in the seafood industry. For over 50 years, Margolis dedicated himself to ensuring fresh seafood was delivered to restaurants across the Valley, working tirelessly from early morning until late at night.

🖌 The pandemic brought unexpected challenges to his business, as restaurant operations were disrupted. It was during this time of uncertainty that Margolis rekindled his first love—art. Since 2020, he has explored various artistic styles, each reflecting an underlying joy of life, or "joie de vivre." In this upcoming exhibition, Margolis presents two collections that radiate a sense of happiness and lightness, expressed through playful gestures and creative use of scale.

Look at this awesome hand sewn banner in our M|otherworlds exhibit by artist AmyLou Bogen!🤩

"Crusading with Momma: Onward We Traipse" is a tribute to the powerful and often invisible labor of motherhood drawing from the impact of women who have shaped Bogens journey—her mother, grandmother, daughter, and herself. Included are sentimental artifacts like a vintage “mother pillowcase,” a sun-bleached tablecloth, and a worn receiving blanket.

This art piece uses vintage red velvets for the soft sculpture highlighted to symbolize the sacred yet isolated roles of mothers that are weighed down by societal expectations.

As AmyLou transitions from maidenhood to motherhood, identity is transformed, multiplied, and reshaped. “Crusading with Momma” honors the shared experience between mothers and daughters, reflecting on the joy, sorrow, transformation, and endurance of motherhood.

“Wolf-Mother and the Eschaton” by artist Hannah Cisneros✨🖊

This powerful ink drawing delves into apocalyptic anxieties into alchemical willpower. Through the use of intricate stippling and line work, Cisneros is able to enter a meditative state and explore the merging of opposites such as light and dark.

This piece embodies a journey of integration of a new identity. Including themes of the Wolf-Mother and the merging of Anima and Animus explored through the experience of pregnancy. For Hannah Cisneros, motherhood and non-binary identity surpass traditional boundaries and create a space where both the feminine and masculine not only coexist but nurture each other.

Cisneros writes “It is a philosophical and spiritual position: expansive, generative, nutritious, like the She-Wolf’s dripping breast. Not the One, not the Other, but a Secret Third Thing.”
