  • OMG MSG: Food, Art, and the Asian Diaspora

    From specialty matcha drinks to ube donuts to boba shops on nearly every corner, diasporic Asian food has infiltrated the mainstream culture and transformed the culinary landscape across the United States. Yet, the food is still plagued with misconception and discrimination. Through an artistic lens, this exhibition will attempt to dispel some of the fallacies surrounding Asian ingredients, celebrate its cultural significance, and discuss food as legacy. Participating artists: Sapira Cheuk, Katherine Del Rosario, Jo Ho, Shachi Kale, Yashoada Latkar, Jisun Myung, Anh-Thuy Nguyen, May Ling Tang, Eamon Win, Shela Yu and Olivia Yuen.     On January 22, Chicago Street will come alive as it transforms into a vibrant, high-energy Night Market celebrating the richness and diversity of the Asian diaspora. For one unforgettable evening, the corridor will be filled with the sights, sounds, and flavors of bustling street markets. Beyond the food, the City Hall courtyard will be transformed into an immersive art and shopping experience. A DJ spinning electrifying tunes will welcome visitors into the space and artists will dazzle folks with their sculptures and live paintings.
